Hodelpa Hotels Advances Biodiversity Protection with New Native Planting Initiative in the Dominican Republic

Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic – Hodelpa Hotels, one of the Dominican Republic’s leading hospitality companies, has launched a comprehensive native planting initiative in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources. The project aims to safeguard endangered species, enhance local biodiversity, and reinforce the brand’s long-term commitment to sustainable tourism across its key destinations.

Implemented under Hodelpa’s EcoGreen sustainability platform, the initiative focuses on introducing native and endemic plant species into the landscaped areas of its properties. These efforts are designed to transform hotel grounds into active conservation sanctuaries that support ecological balance and promote environmental awareness among guests and local communities.

“At Hodelpa, sustainability is an integral part of our operational philosophy. This initiative reflects our commitment to regenerative practices that protect the natural heritage of the Dominican Republic while enhancing the guest experience,” said Yeine Durán, Sustainability Manager at Hodelpa Hotels.

The first phase of the program took place in Juan Dolio, where 300 mara trees were planted at Hodelpa Garden Suites. Emotions by Hodelpa Juan Dolio further expanded the effort with the planting of 20 Dominican mahogany trees and 30 mara specimens—selected for their ecological relevance, resilience, and ornamental value.

The initiative also extended to the brand’s properties in Puerto Plata, where Hodelpa team members and representatives from the Ministry joined forces to plant species adapted to the northern region. These efforts reinforce Hodelpa’s environmental stewardship and its commitment to protecting the country’s diverse natural ecosystems.

Through these actions, Hodelpa Hotels continues to advance a responsible, future-driven hospitality model. The introduction of thoughtfully curated green spaces not only supports species preservation but also offers guests immersive, nature-rich environments that align with the growing demand for sustainable travel experiences across North America.
