During the initiative, 51 volunteers collected more than 1,200 pounds of trash.

Puerto Plata. – Hodelpa Hospitality, through its Eco Green sustainability program, organized a beach cleanup along the Malecón in Puerto Plata to commemorate World Water Day, reaffirming its commitment to sustainability and environmental protection.

The event brought together 51 volunteers, including 22 employees from Emotions Puerto Plata, 19 students from Los Mameyes Elementary School—which is sponsored by the hotel chain—accompanied by two teachers and a parent, as well as 7 members of the Clean Ocean Foundation, who joined forces to help preserve the coastal environment.

As a result of the cleanup, a total of 1,223 pounds of waste was collected, consisting of 613 pounds of glass, 180 pounds of plastic, and 430 pounds of general waste.

Before the cleanup began, students and other volunteers attended an educational talk given by Johan Beird, founder of the Clean Ocean Foundation, on the importance of marine ecosystems—especially coral reefs—their types and functions, as well as proper waste management.

“At Hodelpa Hospitality, we believe in sustainability as a collective effort. Through initiatives like this, we seek not only to protect our environments but also to foster greater environmental awareness in our communities,” said Ms. Yeine Durán, the chain’s Sustainability and Quality Manager.
