Santiago de los Caballeros is experiencing a moment of transformation. With an investment of RD$44 million, the Hotel Hodelpa Gran Almirante is undertaking a comprehensive renovation of its Convention Center, an iconic space that has been a gathering point for congresses, conventions, and social events for more than three decades.
A unique convention center in the city
The Gran Almirante is the only hotel in Santiago with a convention center spanning 2,000 m², consisting of nine rooms with a capacity of up to 800 people.
With this renovation, the spaces will become more versatile and functional, adapted to all kinds of events: from large-scale corporate conventions to memorable social celebrations.
Modern design with a warm touch
The renovation embraces a contemporary, bright, and welcoming aesthetic. The incorporation of natural wood and a palette of earth tones, with shades of gray and brown, adds freshness and elegance to every environment.
The first phase of the project, which includes the transformation of the Marien Room, will be completed in the first week of September 2025, marking the beginning of a new chapter in the history of Gran Almirante.
Innovation for a better experience
One of the key elements of the renovation is the installation of a new freight elevator, which will optimize the logistics of setting up and dismantling events. This will allow for faster and safer transportation of furniture and goods, benefiting both organizers and clients.
Recognition for excellence
This year, Hodelpa Gran Almirante was awarded "Best Venue for Congresses and Corporate Events in the Northern Region" at the Latin American Awards for Romance and Meetings Tourism (LAWA). This recognition highlights not only the quality of its facilities but also the expertise of its banquet team, with over 30 years of experience in the sector.
Santiago as a business destination
“With this investment, we not only strengthen our leadership in the sector but also boost Santiago’s competitiveness as a world-class destination for congresses, conventions, and business tourism in the Dominican Republic,” said Jessica Aja, Executive Vice President of Hodelpa Hotels.
Looking towards the future
The renovations are expected to be completed by the end of October 2025. From then on, visitors and organizers will be able to enjoy a renewed space designed to meet the growing demands of meeting tourism and to reinforce Santiago’s position as a strategic business hub in the Caribbean.
