Originally founded in an area known as Jacagua, about 7 kilometers from its current location, Santiago de los Caballeros plays an important role in the past of the Dominican Republic. Today it is the second largest city in the Dominican Republic, and it is nicknamed Ciudad Corazón thanks to its location in the center of the Cibao Valley, it is a modern city prosperous in commerce, financial centers, education and services, with a vibrant culture.
